Yumi Tamura
Yumi Tamura is the awesome manga writer who created Basara. The only website with
any information about her is in Japanese, so for the longest time, I didn't know
much about her. Fortunately, I discovered some free website translation software and
was finally able to
read up on this lady. The following are just some of the information I dug up from
her very well-managed
personal website.
Be warned: some of the information I posted below could be
wrong, since those web translations are still a bit funky.

- Profile -
Tamura-san's birthday falls on September 5th (I don't know what year). She comes from
the Tokyo precinct of Wakayama. After graduating from high school, she attended
a design school, eventually becoming a manga artist. She has been
drawing for 17 years, and believes in incorporating many different
genres into her work. Basara is her most famous work, and took 8 & 1/2 years for her
to finish. It has gone on to become a popular manga hit in Japan and an animated series. Tamura
herself was awarded the 38th annual Shogakukan manga prize (see left picture).
- Hobbies -
Believe it or not, Tamura is an avid RPG videogamer - Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, etc.
She also loves to read mystery books, and going on the computer to chat with her fans.
Indeed, her website is one of the best - if not the best - official creator sites
I've ever seen. Anyway, with so many time-consuming hobbies, I'm amazed she still
finds time to draw manga.
