Nagi is the village prophet who
foretold Sarasa and Tatara to be the Savior of Japan
at their birth. Basically, he was the guy who started the whole mess and got
everybody excited about "Tatara." Oh well,
somebody had to do it.
Besides being a prophet, Nagi is also a doctor and a teacher. He was vital to Sarasa's
upbringing, and mentored her in all studies. That's why she turned out to be such
a cool person. Whenever trouble arises, Sarasa can always make sound decisions based
on what Nagi has taught her.
We've noticed that Nagi has a very keen nose for smelling trouble in the wind. He was
able to notice "an ill wind" on the day Sarasa's village was attacked. You could also
call him the Yoda of the Basara world, because he can always whip out a wise-saying,
in any situation.

Kakujî was the care-taker
of Sarasa and Tatara. He was almost like a third
parent, and on numerous occasions was willing to die for their sake.
While Nagi taught the twins how to think, Kakujî taught them how to fight.
Birth: May 3rd (Taurus)
Voice: Tessho Genda

Hayato is the kid who joined Sarasa in Kyushu.
He is the great-grandson of Rasho - 1 of the 4 legendary warriors who first challenged the empire a long time ago.
Despite his lineage, Hayato does not want to rebel against the empire. He just wants a normal peaceful
life like everyone else. But a personal loss caused him to take up the fight alongside Sarasa. Most of the time, he's a
comic relief. Hayato is the rightful owner of the Sword of Suzaku.
Birth: April 1st (Aries)
Voice: Hiro Yuuki

Cha-Cha is the very tough and
busty pirate leader, who also joins up with Sarasa
in the fight against the Red King. She didn't like Sarasa at first, but soon
became a loyal comrade after Sarasa bested her in a duel.
Because of her connections and resources, she
is an important ally. With her ships, Sarasa and company can travel about easily.
Birth: March 9th (Pisces)
Voice: Kaori Yamagata

Zaki is Cha-Cha's lover,
and fellow pirate. He follows and supports his woman
in whatever she decides to do. He is also willing to kill and die to protect her.
This guy is just a bit too much of a lap dog for my taste, and he seems
to suffer from a constant-scowl affliction.
Birth: October 26th (Scorpio)
Voice: Kouji Ishii

Chigusa is the mother of Tatara and Sarasa.
She didn't do much in the anime, but her
role does become quite significant later in the manga.
There is something going on between her and Kazan.
Voice: Mika Doi

Senju is Shido's fiancee.
She is obsessively in love with him, and lives in constant
fear that he will die a honorable death in battle. She is also envious of the
close friendship between Shido and Shuri.
Raised as a princess, she is
the traditional female type whose whole life seems to revolve around the man she loves.
Birth: September 1st (Virgo)
Voice: Yuka Imai

General Kazan is the man who commands
the Red Army at the Red King's orders. He
may look like a mean and evil man, but he is also honorable, loyal, and kind.
On occasion, he can even be funny, though unintentionally. He is the brash counterpart
to Ashô's sound reasoning. Thus the two bicker a lot in front of the Red King.
It can be seen in episode 3 that Kazan develops a soft spot for Tatara's mother, Chigusa.
And their relationship becomes even more complicated later in the manga.
Birth: April 15th (Aries)
Voice: Ako Otsuka

Ashô is the Red King's political
advisor and manages all the government paperwork.
Despite his high position, he does not appear to be very smart or useful. I've
never seen the Red King ask him for advice, although I have seen the Red King
reprimand him for slow progress on an underground water channel.
As it turns out in subsequent stories from the manga, Ashou's loyalty to the Red King
is not a solid one.
