Rasho is 1 of the 4 legendary
warriors who first challenged the corrupt empire
a long time ago and failed. He founded the Village of Suzaku, but was betrayed
by his own people - specifically the Shojo Family. After being turned in to the
Emperor, he was imprisoned in an underground tunnel between San-Yo and Kyushu.
His will for revenge kept him alive until Sarasa stumbled upon him on her
way to Kyushu. He is the great-grandfather of Hayato, and he used to wield the
Sacred Sword of Suzaku.

The Blue King is a sadistic
creature who controls the populace of Kanto with
superstitions and trickery harkening back to the days of medieval Europe. Every year,
he holds a Festival of Fertility to watch slaves kill each other. He also sacrifices
virgins to appease an imaginary dragon, who the local people believe to cause
disastrous floods. All of this is just to scare the people into obliging to his
strict caste system.

Spoiler - Episode 13
Actually, this guy is not the Blue King. He was merely a substitute. Asagi
- the real Blue King - was the one who told him what to do. It would be more
correct to call this guy the Snake King, since he's always around reptiles.

Madame Butterfly manages a
traveling troupe of entertainers, one of whom is Kicho.
She's kind and on many occasions has helped Sarasa in her quest.
Voice: Kazue Komiya

Iron Mask Iron Mask worked for
the Blue King and personally invited Sarasa to
Kanto. For good reasons, his face is always hid behind a helmet.
Voice: Tohru Furusawa

Spoiler - Episode 13
Iron Mask's real name is Raizô, and he is actually conspiring against
the Blue King by saving most of the slaves wounded during the Festival of Fertility.
He is the rightful owner of the Sword
of Seiryû, and purposely employed himself to the Blue King in order to overthrow him.
At the end of the anime, he became the leader of the Rebel Army in Seiran.

Hisha is a follower of
Tatara from the village of Ochi-Ori. He relays messages
between Tatara and the rest of her villagers who are traveling with Nagi.
Sometimes he joins in the fight. He looks more interesting than he actually is.
Voice: Susumu Chiba

Yunoka is in love with Sarasa's
brother Tatara. She wants to do all she can to help him
realize a free new world. But she's the typical helpless female - like Senju -
whose whole life seems to revolve around the man she loves.
Voice: Michiko Neya

The Shojo Brothers control the Flagship of Suzaku - a floating fortress
housing all the villagers of the sunken Suzaku Village. They belong to the
Shojo Family, who once betrayed Rasho - the rightful leader of Suzaku Village.
In order to control the villagers, they forged a fake Sword
of Suzaku, and wants to capture Tatara to please the Red King.
They're sort of like corrupt governors of Suzaku Village, and I
think they look like monkeys in cowboy outfits.

These three guys are all devote followers of Shido's dress code (just look at the
picture). Actually, they are loyal soldiers under Shido's command. They were
asked by their commander to capture Tatara in a guerrilla-style attack,
and would have succeeded if not for
the eruption of Sakura Island.

|
Choro is the grandfather of Sarasa and Tatara.
He was the one who told Sarasa the legend of the 4 Sacred Swords, and asked her to go on a quest to recover them.
|
|
Ma-kun, or Makoto, is the childhood friend of Sarasa.
He looks up to Sarasa's brother
as the Savior and is a remarkably brave little boy.
Voice: Ikue Otani

Shinbashi is the pet owl that follows Sarasa everywhere. He is the smallest son
of Ageha's owl, Kagero. Because of his small size, Shinbashi was constantly pushed out of
the nest as a baby. In order to save him from starvation, Sarasa
decided to raise him.
Shinbashi serves as the comic relief and ubiquitous shoujo cute companion.
In a way, his life is supposed to parallel Sarasa's
growth as the leader of this fabled rebellion. Along the way, he
likes to cheer Sarasa up when she's feeling down. He also has the uncanny ability to
survive even the most harrowing ordeals that Sarasa undergoes.
Shinbashi's
favorite hang outs are Sarasa's shoulder, Sarasa's head, Sarasa's collar, and Yato's nose.
